The most popular and smooth way to reach is by taking a short scenic flight from the capital Kathmandu to land at Lukla, a town with a small airstrip named after legendary late mountaineers Tenzing & Hillary airport. Then, you will trek to Namche Bazar, Tyangboche and eventually to Everest Base Camp.
Other various routes are available if you are not willing to fly to Lukla. The classic and original trail follows the footsteps of early mountaineers Tenzing and Hillary. The walk leads you to Everest Base Camp after an interesting overland journey to a place named ‘Jiri’. , also known as the ‘Switzerland of Nepal’ due to its beautiful scenery of the green valley, covered with lovely woodland in the shade of mighty Himalayan peaks.
The trekking route then takes you around nice Sherpa villages within Solu areas and then towards the Khumbu region to reach Everest Base Camp via Namchebazar and Thyangboche.
The other less-used trails include walking from east of Everest areas. The flight takes you to warm low areas of Tumlingtar around Arun River Valley. You will then head towards Khumbu walking past nice farm villages to reach at high Khumbu region via Salpa Pass.
One of the most adventurous routes to Everest Base Camp is walking from the high and beautiful Rolwaling valley. You will need to take a drive from Kathmandu to reach Dolakha and then towards cooler alpine hills to reach Bedding within scenic Rolwaling valley. Crossing high Tashi-Labtsa at above 5,755 m, you will reach the Khumbu area and then continue to walk towards the Base Camp.
Seasons for Everest Base Camp Trek
The last reason is that you can this trek can be done in almost all seasons. Everest Base Camp Trek can be done in all months of the year, except monsoon wet moths from mid-June to mid-September. March to May will be a good time to walk around high Khumbu areas when wildflowers like rhododendron are blooming. The daytime is mostly clear for views with mild temperatures of a minimum of 0° C to a maximum of 20° C in sunlight. Mornings and evenings can be cold, depending upon the altitude with some chances of faint showers and snow sometimes.
September to December is another season that you can choose to trek to Everest Base Camp. The days are mostly clear in Autumn. The beginning months of winter will be very cold from above 2,800 m. The temperatures can reach the freezing point of a minimum of -10° C to a maximum of 15° C with small hours of sunlight, but most of the day is clear for views and walks.
