Langtang Region

Bordering Tibet to the north of the capital- Kathmandu, Langtang is a Himalayan region of Nepal. The region is inhabited predominantly by the ethnic community of the Tamang who have preserved their culture and the natural significance of their soil. The Langtang region lies between the Ganesh and the Gaurishankar Himal ranges. Likewise, the Langtang Lirung (7227m) and its neighbouring Himalayas form a majestic landmark in the northernmost part of the region. As such, lush hills and river valleys form most parts of the region. Thus, there are many travel and adventure activities like trekking, peak climbing, expedition, white river rafting, and Heli tours available in the Langtang region. 

The Langtang region is naturally gifted and houses a fully diverse terrain incorporating a different range of flora, fauna, climate, and activities to do. The Langtang Lirung (7227m) and Langtang Ri (6596m) are the scenic centrepieces of the region. Apart from massive peaks adorning the northern border of the region, the Langtang National Park is the key element that brings everything together. The Langtang National Park covers an expansive area of 1,710 km2 in the Nuwakot, Rasuwa, and Sindhupalchowk districts of Nepal. It is the first Himalayan National Park and is known to host the esteemed Langtang Valley. The Qomolangma National Nature Preserve in Tibet is also linked with the national park on the north and eastern border of the park. The park contains a wide variety of climatic zones, from subtropical to alpine and exhibits a high diversity of 14 vegetation types in 18 ecosystem types. Trees include deciduous oak and maple, evergreens like pine, and various types of rhododendron. Animal life includes the Himalayan black bear, the goat-like Himalayan Thar, rhesus monkeys, and red pandas. If not already mystical, the park also contains circulated stories of Yeti sightings.

The Gosainkunda Lake, a major constituent of Hindu pilgrimage also lies within the region at an altitude of 4,480 m. There are over a dozen of other lakes around Gosainkunda including Bhairav Kunda and Saraswati Kunda. These lakes form a lake system which is esteemed to both Hindu and Buddhist followers. Likewise, the Helambu Valley to the southeastern part of the region grants access to authentic and unique Sherpa culture and traditions.

With such an astounding array of natural wonders, there are numerous travel possibilities in the Langtang region. Langtang Valley Trek, Helambu Trek, Tamang Heritage Trek, and Gosainkunda Lake Trek are the famous treks in the region. As such, Yala Peak (5500m), Naya Khang (5844), and Baden Powell Scout Peak (5890m) are the peak climbing destinations. Lastly, Langtang Lirung (7227m) is one of the most famous expeditions in entire Nepal. The months of September to November during autumn and March to May during spring are wonderful times to visit the region because of the moderate temperature, pleasant trails, and beautiful Himalayan views.
