Khopra Danda Trek also known as Khopra Ridge Trek is a special adventure of a week duration in the laps of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri range of mountains. The trek offers you to explore the hidden pockets of Nepal Mid-West Himalaya. You will be fascinated with the awesome scenery of white snow-capped peaks, rolling green hills covered with beautiful rhododendron and magnolia trees. You will also get a chance to witness nice villages of Gurung and Poon-Magar tribes, a Hill people of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri Himalaya.

The trek is a special adventure of a weeks duration within massive Annapurna and Dhaulagiri range of mountains to the hidden pockets of Mid-West Himalayas of Nepal. You will be fascinated with the awesome scenery of white snow capped peaks, green hills covered with beautiful rhododendron and magnolia trees. You’ll also visit nice villages of Gurung, Poon and Magar people.

Khopra Danda Trek offers outstanding nature walk quite different from other mainstream trekking trails of Annapurna Conservation Area. You will be in remote corners of Annapurna Himalaya away from main villages. The trek one of the least ventured region of Annapurna conservation areas where will be in the complete wilderness of mountains range and scenic views within enchanting woodland and nice pasture landscapes.

Khopra Danda Trek is less crowded and limited number of lodges it makes a totally different trekking destination. Trek begins from the scenic and pretty Pokhara city. You’ll then leave sub-tropical areas for cooler alpine woodlands to reach Ghorepani. It’s a wonderful place with good lodgings. You can enjoy the panoramic views of Dhaulagiri, Mustang Himal, Dhampush Peak, Tukuche Peak, Nilgiri West and Annapurna ranges.

From Ghorepani, you’ll hike to Poon Hill early in the morning for stunning panoramic sunrise view over the Himalayas. Heading into pristine tranquillity away from the main trekking path marks the start of the actual journey to reach Kopra Danda. The hill top offers marvellous panorama view of Dhaulagiri and Annapurna range of mountains. Holy Khair Lake on the top of the hill is also one of the highlights of the Khopra Ridge Trek.

The return walk leads into serene woodland then back to main trekking route past the nice large village of Ghandruk. After Ghandruk, you’ll drive back to Pokhara. You can chill and relax in Pokhara after the trek and then before taking a flight to Kathmandu for a flight back.

Khopra Danda Trek Itinerary 

Day 01: On arrival at Pokhara airport 885 m meet our staff and transfer to the hotel.
Day 02: Drive to Bhirethati or Nayapul and start the walk to Tirkhedhunga (1,440m) . – 5/6 hrs.
Day 03: Trek to Ghorepani (2,856m) via Ulleri village. – 5/6 hrs
Day 04: Hike to Poon Hill (3,210m) for sunrise over mountain and walk to Santa village (2,235 m). – 4/5 hrs.
Day 05: Trek to Kopra Ridge (3,855m) via Chistibung (3,140m). – 5/6 hrs
Day 06: Rest day at Kopra for an optional hike to holy Khair Lake. – 5/6 hrs both ways
Day 07: Trek to Do-Bato (3,419m). – 5/6 hrs
Day 08: Trek to Ghandruk (1,930m) via Tadapani (2,635m). – 6/7 hrs
Day 09: Trek to Bhirethati (1,100m) or Nayapul and drive to Pokhara. – 4/5 hrs

Day 1
Arrival at Pokhara (885m) meet our staff and transfer to hotel.

You can land at Pokhara or Kathmandu where our guide or staff receives you for short drive to your hotels in the hub of Pokhara. If you are in Kathmandu, we’ll arrange a 30 min flight to Pokhara.

After short rest, we’ll brief you regarding the trekand Nepalese culture. In the evening, you’ll be greeted with a welcome dinner in typical Nepalese style with native cultural performances.

Day 2
Drive to Bhirethati or Nayapul and start the walk to Tirkhedhunga (1,440m). - 5/6 hrs

After the stop at Pokhara with ever present views of Annapurna and Machhapuchhare peaks ‘Fish Tail’, the journey starts with a dive to Birethati or Nayapul.

Trekking to Tirkhedhunga starts with grand views of Annapurna as you walk through villages and following Modi River. It’s known as one of the most charming village around Annapurna area. You can enjoy beautiful waterfall near your lodge.

Day 3
Trek to Ghorepani (2,856m) via Ulleri village. - 5/6 hrs

Trek starts in the morning with steep climb on stone paved steps to reach Ulleri village. From here, gradual walks takes you into cool serene woodland to reach Ghorepani, a scenic village situated within green rhododendron forest and on Old Trans Himalayan Salt Trade Route.

Day 4
Morning hike to Poon Hill (3,210m) for sunrise over mountain and walk to Sauta village (2,235 m). - 4/5 hrs.

One of the highlights of the adventure, Poon Hill is best visited in for the sunrise. So, we’ll be leaving the lodge early morning at the crack of dawn for an hour climb to reach Poon Hill. The views of mountains including Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, Manaslu, Machhapuchare and Kopra ridge can be seen from Poon Hill.

After a stunning panorama of mountains, we’ll descend back to lodge at Ghorepani for breakfast, and then continue walk downhill in the cool shade of rhododendron forest to reach Chitre, a nice Poon-Magar village.

From here our route diverges to Kopra Ridge for grand views of Dhaulagiri and Annapurna Peaks. The walk leads to short descend over a stream and then climb up to farm terraces to reach at Sauta, a Magar village.

Day 5
Trek to Kopra Ridge (3,855m) via Chistibung (3,140m). - 5/6 hrs

Walks then leads past Sauta village on pleasant path into alpine forest. You’ll then climb for few hours to reach the remote Chistibung, a small settlement of cattle herders.

Then, you’ll head towards Kopra Ridge for close views of Dhaulagiri range and Vara-Shikar (Annapurna Fang) with Annapurna South at
close distance.

Day 6
Rest day at Kopra with options for a hike to holy Khair Lake. - 5/6 hrs both ways

You’ll have a free morning if you are not hiking to Khair Lake. It’s a glacial pond considered sacred by the villagers. A festival is celebrated once a year in the month of August in the full moon day.

Day 7
Trek to Dobato (3,419m). - 5/6 hrs

Return journey leads on an alternative route after the descend back to Chistibung. Then the trail leads many cattle herders settlements and grazing fields before reaching Dobato for overnight stop.

Day 8
Trek to Ghandruk (1,930m) via Tadapani (2,635m). - 6/7 hrs

The trek then leads you to join main trekkers on downhill walk to reach Tadapani. You’ll reach a Gurung village, Ghandruk. Its one of the largest village and a doorway to many treks in Annapurna region. You can also visit Gurung museum in Ghandruk.

Day 9
Trek to Bhirethati (1,100m) or Nayapul and drive to Pokhara. - 4/5 hrs

Enjoying the morning views, our last day walk of the Annapurna Khopra Danda Trek leads on a nice downhill trail to reach Birethati. A drive back to scenic beautiful Pokhara by its calm Phewa Lake ends the trek. You can either choose to stay in Pokhara or head back to Kathmandu.
