Tamang people are of the Mongolian dynasty and origin. The name was originally Tamar in which Ta means Horse and Mar means Red. The name Tamar (now Tamang) means cavalry soldiers riding on red horses. The people migrated into Nepal’s Himalayan areas including Langtang. The change of profession into farming, arts and crafts which you will witness on this Tamang Heritage Trail trek.

Trip Itinerary

Day 01: On arrival at Kathmandu airport (1,340m) and transfer to the hotel.
Day 02: At Kathmandu with options for sightseeing tour and trek preparations.
Day 03: Drive to Syabrubesi (1,465m) via Dunche (1,910m) – 5/6 hrs.
Day 04: Trek to Gatlang (2,236m) – 5/6 hrs.
Day 05: Trek to Tatopani (2,605m) – 5/6 hrs.
Day 06: Trek to Thuman (2,390m) via Nagthali (3,154m) – 4/5 hrs.
Day 07: Trek to Syabrubesi – 5/6 hrs.
Day 08: Drive back to Kathmandu and transfer to hotel with a free afternoon.
Day 09: International departure for homeward bound.

Starting Tamang Heritage Trail journey heading North of Kathmandu to reach in the heart of Rasuwa district at Dhunche, headquarter a major Tamang town and district around Langtang Himal, where the walk begins from Syabrubesi village as well other major trekking and adventure around Langtang Himal region.

Our route leads beyond and off from the main popular trekking path to reach an interesting large village of Gatlang where the air gets much cooler in this impressive Tamang farm village welcomed in a traditional custom of the Buddhist religion, with time to explore its nice places and interacting with the natives.

After gaining much knowledge of the culture and heritage lifestyle visiting Tatopani village with refreshing natural hot spring in the backdrop of scenic mountain views of Ganesh and Langtang Himal then exploring more around Tamang villages as walk leads close to Tibet border at Nagtahli and Thuman villages and then heading back to the main road-head at Syabrubesi.

At Syabrubesi with last overnight after wonderful times and experience on Tamang Heritage Trail walks the concluding our memorable short trip of less than week duration heading back to Kathmandu.

Itinerary

Day 1
On arrival at Kathmandu airport 1,340 m meet our staff and transfer to hotel.

Landing at Kathmandu and Nepal international airport, where our guide or staff receives you for short drive to your respective hotels in the hub of Kathmandu. After checking into your nice rooms with rest after a jet-lag, and then rendezvous with another group member of Tamang Heritage Trail trekking, where tour operator will brief you with information regarding the treks, about hotels and lodge with Nepalese culture, do’s and don’ts. Evening enjoys grand welcome dinner in typical Nepalese restaurants with various native cultures as entertainment.

Day 2
At Kathmandu with options for tour with time for trek preparations.

At Kathmandu as a free day where one can join in our interesting sightseeing tour as options, as the capital Kathmandu of Nepal steeped with historical and religious monuments of world heritage sites. Afternoon at leisure and preparation for Tamang Heritage Trail trekking, starting next early morning towards North of Kathmandu into Central Himalaya region.

Day 3
Drive to Syabrubesi 1,465 m - 06 hrs.

Morning early morning start after hearty breakfast, then getting ready for a long and interesting overland journey on Nepal’s North-West highway to reach at warmer country around Nuwakot at Trisuli Bazaar, and then continue to drive to the cooler region at Dhunche 1,910 m headquarter town of Rasuwa district, where Langtang National Park starts. Drive continue following farm village on downhill till Syabrubesi village is reached to end the driving journey of the day at this nice farm village for the first overnight stop of the adventure.

Day 4
Trek to Gatlang 2,236 m - 05 hrs.

From Syabrubesi treks begins heading high past farm areas above a river to reach within thick forest area of tall rhododendron-oaks-pines and magnolia trees with some bamboo stalks, where Red Panda and other wildlife often seen around. Walking through the spread-out farm area with a gentle climb to reach a large Tamang village at
Gatlang for an overnight stop, on arrival where you will be greeted with a warm welcome ceremony in a traditional Buddhism way, and then transfer to local home-stay for an overnight stop with time to explore its interesting villages and people and interact with the natives of Langtang.

Day 5
Trek to Tatopani 2, 605 m - 05 hrs.

Morning catch super views of Ganesh and Langtang mountains including some peaks situated within Tibet across the border, the start walk with slow climb uphill past farm villages reaching around high alpine woodlands to Tatopani village for an overnight stop. A place with natural hot spring called as ‘ Tatopani’ in Nepalese enjoy a dip in the hot spring pool and then explore around this quiet farm village.

Day 6
Trek to Thuman 2,390 m via Nagthali 3,154 m - 04 hrs.

Today will be a short day walk to reach at highest point of the trek at Nagthali before reaching Thuman, the areas which are close to Tibet frontier as morning walks leads north on gradual trail with uphill walk for few hours, includes some short descend along with great views of towering and massive Ganesh Himal, Langtang Lirung then walk into the cool forested area to reach at Nagthali for a shortstop and to admire the surrounding views of peaks. The highest spot of the journey, around this nice remote farm village, enjoy exploring around this scenic country with time to interact and observe local impressive cultures. After Nagthali where our final walk of the trip ends today with few hours walk to Thuman another impressive Tamang farm village.

Day 7
Trek to Thuman 2,390 m and drive to Syabrubesi - 06 hrs.

From Thuman trek to Briddim village on route visit nearby historical Rasuwa-Gadi the border of Nepal / Tibet, China with an old fort. The fort a historical reminder of Nepal and Tibet trade and cultural relations that existed for many centuries till present, as walk today takes you to nice area with views of Ganesh and Langtang Himal. A pleasant walk on winding path with climb to a ridge with views of mountains and surrounding landscapes and then enter into rhododendron, pines and oaks forest, then climb with short descend to Briddim for overnight stop. Briddim, similar to Tibetan looking Buddhist village located on ancient trade route of Nepal and Tibet here enjoy folk and cultural show performed by local village community.

Day 8
Drive back to Kathmandu and transfer to hotel with free afternoon.

Morning from Syabrubesi where the exciting overland journey takes you back to Kathmandu on route observe Nepalese country life as drive leads past farm villages and towns to reach at Kathmandu around afternoon time, rest of the day free for individual activities and shopping souvenirs.

Day 9
From Syabrubesi drive to Kathmandu - 06 hrs.

From Syabrubesi journey reach you at Kathmandu after an enjoyable and great moment on Tamang Heritage Trekking. Morning overland journey to Kathmandu after last overnight at Syabrubesi, as drive lead on same exciting and interesting highway to reach Kathmandu and to

your respective hotels, with afternoon free to enjoy your own personal activities and shopping.

Day 10
International Departure homeward bound.

Last day in Nepal enjoying exciting and fabulous times with great experience on Nepal Central Himalaya around Langtang Himal, as time for your international flight and then depart from the hotel, where Nature Heaven staff and guide transfers you for your flight homeward bound or to respective countries.

On Tamang Heritage Trail can we bring family with children?

Yes of course! This trek for all age group can join in this lovely walks, it will be an exciting holiday as well for adults, where walk leads to ups and down with high country valley to reach Nagthali village which will be the highest spot of the journey. On this treks less chance of catching altitude sickness of AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness), where walks lead with a slow gain in elevation, while you get acclimatized before reaching higher hills.

When do I book for Tamang Heritage Trail Trekking?

Depending upon your time and duration for the trek you can book this trip at least 2-3 weeks Before trip departure dates for the trek, with advance payment as per the norms and rules of the company. Make sure that you have checked your medical and physical fitness before signing the trip and as well purchasing medical and travel insurance which is very important for this kind of adventurous treks in Nepal Himalaya.

How many people will be in the group?

From the minimum 2-6 people in the group with a maximum of 10-15 persons in the group, in some cases we do allow booking for a single person as well, running independently at extra cost than in groups.

What will be weather like on the trek?

As per the season wise, where the best time is from March to May when most of the day is clear with minimum temperatures of 0° to 20° Celsius depending upon the altitude and areas. Where most of the morning till mid-days clears for views and walks, sometimes afternoon can get overcast with chances of light rains and snow. April to May will be lively with wild-flowers in full bloom especially various species of rhododendron (national flower of Nepal) from trees too short bushes.

How are the lodge and Tea-House on Treks?

Tea-House the word used in early days when there were smaller numbers of lodges on route trekking, at present each village has more than 10 to 20 good lodges with pleasant rooms accommodations, serving excellent food menus as per the season wise. Some village does have nice lodge as well program that includes staying in local homes managed by the village community, with some inside as well outside common bathrooms and restrooms.
All rooms and dining with warm heating and cosy facilities to make your stay much pleasant and enjoyable.

Are there electricity and network for cell-phones?

Most of the places do have electricity on route trekking run by hydro-power after main villages, where much of electric supply are private and individual of the lodge owners with sun/solar power to activate electric just for the lodge and as well for customers to charge their computers and cell-phones. Some places do have networks for cell phones and as well for internets like Wi-Fi above Nagthali village, some areas due to high peaks and hills, the networks are disturbed in deep areas like around river gorge areas.
At present nearly all people in Nepal including remote villages do have an assist to cell-phones with fine network connection only in bad weather the line can be broken, otherwise it is fine in working order.

What happens if some is sick and have to break the trek?

In this situation where our guides are well equipped with knowledge for emergency and medical purpose, depending upon the seriousness of the victims if it is much critical where nearest medical attention needed, we call for immediate evacuation for Helicopter services to reach the victims to nearest medical station and hospital.

The Tamang tribes are high hills people of Nepal spread around Himalaya throughout the country, where most concentrated within Langtang and Ganesh Himal area of Buddhist religion and origin, these hill tribes are famous as craftsmen as well merrymaking with dance and music, and Tamang is mostly farmers and cattle herders as a traditional profession.

Is it really spectacular in flowering times of March to May?

Absolutely the best months of the year and seasons for botany students, flower and nature lovers, where hills and valley alive with wildflowers in full bloom with riots of different colours, rhododendron from tall trees too short bushes will be in flowering times, rhododendron national flower of Nepal also.
