Off-Betten Region

Nepal is widely known for being a tapestry to multiple snowcapped giants including 8 of the 10 tallest mountain ranges in the world. Nepal is also home to the highest in the world- Mt. Everest (8848m) and plenty of other natural wonders. The country is famous for its old-aged tradition, culture, and ecological diversity. All these features are best explored when trekking to the rural and remote areas of the country. Thus, off-the-beaten-path regions showcase the true authenticity in cultural magnificence along with pristine natural beauty.

The majority of the trekking locations like Everest and Annapurna in Nepal are quite popular and are known by many. These locations have spectacular views, proper infrastructure, and varied terrain which means that the trekking level can be suited to the change in fitness level. Due to this, these locations are often crowded with trekkers, support crews, members and locals. However, if you are well experienced and you have been trekking in Nepal multiple times then you might be looking for something new and different. In that case, off-the-beaten-path treks can be a perfect fit.

Although Nepal is geographically small, there are still multiple regions that haven’t been explored properly yet. These locations are pretty much far away from the main centre of big cities like Pokhara and Kathmandu. Similarly, most of them have been restricted by the government and open up for tourists only during a certain time of the year. The uniqueness of such a trip is the virgin nature, its serene beauty, and tranquil atmosphere. These qualities make your trekking experience extremely rewarding and breathtaking. Also, it allows you to witness the true beauty of Nepal and see it in a way like never before.

From the Kanchenjunga region in eastern Nepal to the Far Western region, there are many off-beat trekking regions and even more trekking routes. Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek, Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek, and Lumba Sumba Trek are the off-beat trekking choices in eastern Nepal. Heading west from the Kanchenjunga region, Makalu Base Camp Trek and Arun Valley Trek in the Makalu region also offer off-beat experiences. In the Rolwaling region, the Rolwaling Valley Trek and Indigenous People Trail are rather less popular trekking routes. The Ruby Valley Trek and Tsum Valley Trek are off-beat treks in central Nepal. Similarly, The Manaslu Circuit Trek is one of the most popular off-beaten path treks in Nepal. The Upper Dolpo Trek, Rara Trek, Limi Valley Trek, and Api Saipal Trek are some of the off-beaten treks to the western part of the country.

Like most of the trekking destinations in Nepal, these off-beat treks are best done during the spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) seasons. Winter (December to February) and monsoon (June to August) seasons pose a great challenge with harsh weather conditions and trekking trails. Since the off-beat treks require expert guidance it is extremely necessary to be careful regarding the trekking routes.
