Mera Peak Climbing Overview

The Mera Peak Climbing trip begins with your arrival in Kathmandu. Here, you stay for a day and prepare for the challenging trip in the days to come. Also, you can tour around the city to a few of the world heritage sites. Next, you fly to the Everest region on a short and scenic flight to Lukla. From here, the trek begins as you head south to Chutanga. Trekking along the Dudh Koshi River, the trip heads to Thuli Kharka before making its way to Thangnak. Further, the trek enters the Makalu Barun National Park and climbs to the top of the Mera La Pass (5045m).

Then, the trek reaches the Mera Peak Base Camp which offers surreal views of the Everest and Charpate Himal ranges. Similarly, you will spend an extra day at the base camp, also known as Khare. Next, you ascend to the Mera High Camp and prepare for the final climb. The climb to the top of Mera Peak (6461m) is a rather difficult affair and stretches across steep snowy terrain.

The top of the peak grants mesmerizing views of the mountains like Mt. Everest (8848m), Makalu (8485m), and Lhotse (8516m). Then, you descend back to the base camp and begin the return trek. The return trail crosses many Sherpa villages and climbs the Zatrwa La Pass (4610m). Finally, you return to Lukla and fly back to Kathmandu.

Flight Delays: Due to the geographical diversity and unpredictable climate in the Himalayas, internal flights are often delayed or cancelled. Weather conditions like heavy rainfall, storms, or fog can disrupt flights. So, it is wise to spare an extra day or two as buffer days, in case of flight delays and cancellations. Likewise, it is also necessary to note that the weather conditions are great during the spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) seasons. If you have enough time, you can also choose road transportation in such cases.

Note: Due to the Air Traffic at Tribhuvan International Airport, all flights to and from Lukla will now be operated from Ramechhap Airport, which is a 4-hour drive from Kathmandu. The transportation to and from Ramechhap will be provided by the company. Thus, it’s good to keep a few extra days after a trek in case of flight delay or cancellation.

Upon arrival in Kathmandu, you will be greeted by the tour representatives and transferred to your accommodation. This day is reserved for rest after your journey and for preparing for the trekking adventure ahead. You can use this time to rest, explore the vibrant city, or get last-minute supplies. Kathmandu is a cultural hub, with rich history and heritage sites, so if you have extra time, you might want to visit places like the Swayambhunath Stupa (Monkey Temple), Durbar Square, or Thamel.

You will assess your gear and equipment before embarking on the trip. You must carry only the needed gear as the flight to Lukla only allows 12-15 kg of luggage in a person. Today is the summit day. The day begins early as you get up at 2 am and have your breakfast. Hopefully, the weather is clear for you to start submitting the peak. The climb begins early morning –this helps to avoid bad weather at the time you reach the summit. Using the fixed ropes, you’ll begin climbing the snow and ice terrains. The steep trail rises until a section behind the ridge brings you towards the summit. Here on, you will use an ice axe and crampon to climb the last section of the summit. From the summit of Mera Peak, you can enjoy the beautiful panorama of the Hinku Valley and some of the highest peaks in the world such as Everest, Cho-Oyu, Lhotse, Makalu, Kanchenjunga, Nuptse, Chamlang, Baruntse. Meals and Accommodations:

In major cities like Pokhara and Kathmandu, you will get multiple options to choose from, from cheap lodges to extravagant 5 stars hotels. Likewise, you will also get to choose from a wide range of cuisines while in the major cities. However, once you move away from the cities, the options for meals and accommodations in Nepal will become limited. During the treks, the best accommodations available are lodges and teahouses. They provide basic facilities for dining and lodging. These places mostly serve traditional Nepali “Daal Bhat Tarkari” (rice, pulses, and vegetables). Similarly, there are several other food varieties like Momo, Thukpa, and Thakali food available across Nepal.

Banking, ATMs, and Money in Nepal:

Nepalese Rupees are the official currency of Nepal. The banknotes of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 500, and 1000 whereas coins of 1 and 2 are available in Nepal.
While travelling to Nepal, banking and money exchange are not a huge deal in big cities like Pokhara and Kathmandu. When you head to rural areas, the availability of banks, ATMs, and money exchange booths becomes fairly scarce. So, it is best to withdraw enough cash and exchange the currency in major cities.

We know a particular location where you need to stay for rest to acclimatize, the particular distance you need to walk slowly pace study and so on. In case you get AMS, we have crews who know how to deal with, it effectively and smartly.

Country Visa and Entry Procedure:

Some people who might take Diamox pills, which is often used as high altitude pills, and should consult the doctors before taking the right dose, which helps to regulate the flow of blood systems from getting clots at high altitude. Where drinking plenty of fluids, water juice and rehydration drink including black warm tea also help and taking much rest after getting tired.
