You can book this trip a couple of weeks or earlier than your departure date. Make sure that you have gathered required information, checked on your health and purchased travel insurance before you head out for the trip.
-
How many people will there be in the group?
We organize treks for solo travelers and groups of any size. However, the ideal group size is 2 to 10 people.
-
How will the weather be like around Everest region for Island Peak Climb?
The weather around the preferred trekking seasons like March to May (Spring) and September to October (Autumn) will mostly be ideal for the hike. Most of the day is clear with temperatures ranging from 0° to 20° Celsius depending upon the altitude. Sometimes, afternoon can get overcast with chances of light rains and snow (in the high altitude areas).
-
How is the accommodation like on the Island Peak Climb via EBC trek?
You will be staying overnight at hotels and tea-houses during your trek. At present, villages below 4000m have around 15-20 good tea houses/lodges with pleasant rooms serving excellent food menus. Higher above 4000m, the options decrease. All rooms and dining are equipped with warm heating facilities to make your stay much pleasant and enjoyable.
-
Is there electricity and can I charge my cell phone, camera, etc ?
Most of the places on the trek have electricity. On higher altitude areas, the electricity comes from privately owned solar panels and you might also have to pay to charge your phones, laptop and cameras.
-
Is there WiFi or mobile network during the trek?
Some places have networks for cell phones and also internet facilities while some areas above Dingboche do not offer ideal connectivity. At present, almost all places on route to Everest Base Camp including remote villages have network connection but bad weather and geography can affect the service quality. Also, keep in mind that you will have to buy prepaid internet cards or pay if you want to use the internet in some places.
-
What if someone is sick and has to break the trek?
If the condition of the person is not critical, first aid and primary medication is our first priority. Then, if the person can not continue, our guides will help the person to return to a safe place and get a flight back to Kathmandu. But if the condition is critical, we call for immediate helicopter evacuation to the nearest hospital or even to Kathmandu in critical cases. Our guides and staff are well trained for the situation. We recommend that you buy travel insurance that comes handy in these situations.
-
How is the food during the Island Peak Climb via EBC Trek?
Most dishes from traditional to western are available in Namche and Lukla but as you trek to high altitude areas the options become limited. However, we try to make sure meals are prepared according to your choice and our guides will assist you on that. Most of the lodges and tea houses have been serving travellers for more than two decades now. We do recommend you to ask about the ingredients before ordering food just to make sure you are on the safe side. Food supplies have to be carried by porters and animals so do not expect a lot of items on the menu.
-
What kind of medication should I bring from home for the trek?
On our packing list, we have mentioned general advice for medication. Some of the basic medicines that should be on the list include medication for diarrhea, headache, fever, cold-flu, constipation, cuts-wounds and burns as well. Check our packing checklist section. In every trip, our guides carry comprehensive medical kits for common use if required. Also, do not forget to bring the prescribed drugs if you are consuming any. We have designed the itinerary days where people can acclimatize well with rest days in a couple of high places before reaching much higher to our goal and highlights. Some people might take Diamox pills, which is often used as high altitude pills, should consult the doctors before taking the right dose, which helps to regulate the flow of blood systems from getting clots in high altitude. Where drinking plenty of fluids, water-juice and, re-hydration drink including black warm tea also helps and taking much rest after getting tired.
-
What are the things I should be aware of on the trek?
We request all of our fellow travelers to abide by the rules of the company and listen to what your trek guides and leaders say. The most common problems are stomach disorder, altitude sickness and staying on the trek route. If people have traveled in Asian countries food will not be much of a problem. Altitude sickness is mostly caused by walking too fast and insufficient rest or acclimatization. Our itineraries are well designed so that people can acclimatize well.
